About this Event
At midnight on November 14, 2016, a 7.8 earthquake saw parts of New Zealand stand up 25 feet taller and walk 15 feet north. A crack in the earth was visible traversing the land for more than 100 miles. A few hundred miles further north, in New Zealand’s capital, a Government Department’s head office was flattened losing 90% of its IT capability overnight.
The department regained control with full restoration in just 12 weeks, but the damage went much deeper and lasted longer – It created hundreds of heroes.
This is my journey as the Principle Consultant tasked with moving the entire government department towards agile. I had no assistance, no position of power, no executive recognition or understanding, and my only weapon was “influence”.
The only time I was more terrified was when I was taken into the country’s maximum-security prison to speak to the “lifers” in the dreaded C-Block.
